Igbobi College rolls out carpet, showcases facilities

Friday April 24 was a memorable day for students, teachers and management of Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos.

On that day, authorities of the 83-year-old mission school rolled out red carpets to receive parents, Old Boys and the general public, to showcase its modern facilities. It was the school’s Open House event.

Such facilities include well-stocked library, music laboratory, science laboratories, Information and Technology (IT) laboratories, school clinic with stand-by medical doctor, hostels and sports arena.

The school’s orchestra was on hand to entertain the visitors with their melodious renditions, while the staff, teachers and students in their special attires respectively attend to enquiries by the visitors. The students’ dramatic society also gave a good account of themselves with their presentation.

Chairman of the Board of Governors (BOG) of Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos, Dr. Mrs. Olufemi Ogunsanya, in her address, said the institution, a missionary school, is geared towards moulding the students into total beings who can fit into life anywhere they find themselves.

Mrs. Ogunsanya stressed that the school, jointly run by the Anglican and Methodist Foundation, has over the years, established a record of excellence and high performance in academics as its products always come tops in public examinations.

She also stated that the school has produced outstanding personalities who occupy important positions in the society, both in public and private sector, even as she named the Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola, and the Vice President-elect, Yemi Osinbajo, as few of the products of the school.

She said the essence of the Open House event was to showcase the new Igbobi College to both parents and the general public, as the institution boasts of modern libraries, laboratories, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre, as well as good hostel facilities to make the students achieve excellence in their studies.

Mrs. Ogunsanya thanked the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), the Igbobi College Old Boys Association and the staff for their support and dedication, even as she promised that the institution would continue to improve on its past achievements.

Also, the school’s principal, Very Rev Oludare Adeboyejo, who led the visitors on a facility tour, informed that apart from the West African School Certificate/GCE Examinations, the school prepares and enlists its students for the Cambridge General School Certificate Examinations to enable them get certificates that are acceptable globally.

He stated that apart from the modern facilities, the school has friendly environment for them to study and succeed, even as there are excellent sports facilities, adding that the students are also given an excellent moral education that enables them to good citizens wherever they find themselves.

Some of the parents, who spoke at the event, commended the school authorities for the noticeable improvements as well as the modern facilities, which they saw during a facility, tour, and urged the school to continue to improve on its already established standard.
