Vanguard for Transparent Leadership and Democracy (VATLAD) has stated factors that could ensure the success of the deregulation of downstream oil sector in Nigeria.

It said while this deregulation policy is on, the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Department of Petroleum Resources (downstream section), Petroleum Equalization Fund, Association of Major Oil Marketers and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) Association of Major Oil marketers and other unions or associations that are directly or indirectly involved with regulation, fixing or influencing prices of petroleum products should immediately be outlawed.

Comrade Igbini Emmanuel, National President, VATLAD, in a chat with Independent, posited that market forces of demand and supply should be the only lawful factors and agents to regulate and fix the prices at all given times.

He said the federal government should immediately order anti-graft agencies into the oil sector (upstream and downstream) to identify and bring to justice unpatriotic citizens and their collaborators who have destroyed Nigeria and continue to cause the worst form of economic crime and sabotage against the nation.

According to him, the federal government must realize that this is a very sensitive issue that affects the generality of the masses even as it has caused the downfall of governments across the globe either through democratic means of elections or military coups.

The announcement by the Federal Government Wednesday of the total removal of subsidy, liberalizing or removing subsidy payments from petrol and kerosene or by whatever nomenclature, he said, did not come as a surprise.
