For the people of Ifiteogwari in Ayamelum Local Government Area of Anambra State, what they said was one illegality that was succeeded by another illegality has resulted in crisis.

On December 12, 2014, the Amichi village in the community conducted an internal election to determine who would represent it in the town union election.  That election was won by Comrade Nweke Oliver and he was subsequently selected to contest the town union election since power rotated among the villages of the community.

However, the game changed two days later when other positions in the town union office were to be filled. According to Nweke, a committee nominated to conduct the election suddenly transmuted into an electoral college, and presented another person, allegedly sponsored by the traditional ruler of the community to take his place.

Nweke further alleged that he was displaced because some people feared that he would be uncontrollable as President- General.

He said that when the committee tried to displace him, he promptly wrote to the Special Adviser to the Governor on Town Union and Chieftaincy Matters, Government House Awka, but that his petition was never acted upon.

Nweke added that rather than act on his petition, one Chukwudi Ekwunife, whom the ‘electoral college’ had used to substitute his name was forwarded as the President General of Ifiteogwari and was not only accepted by government but a certificate of return issued to him.
