‘ICT Business Process Outsourcing Can Create 30m jobs’

Stakeholders in the Information and Communication Technology sector have said the ICT Business Process Outsourcing has the potential of generating 30 million jobs, if the nation’s infrastructural gap is addressed.

This was unanimously agreed at a round table meeting with the theme “Jobs for All – Sustainable, Demand Driven Job Creation in Nigeria through Information Communication Technology” organised by NAITEOC in conjunction with the World Bank in Abuja.

Therefore, the stakeholders have called on Muhammadu Buhari led administration to tap into the sector in order to create massive jobs for the citizenry in line with his election campaign promises.

The Chairman of the meeting and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Communication Technology, Dr. Tunji Olaopa stated that Nigeria needs to deepen and consolidate on the laudable ICT initiative formulated in the past so as to expand its contributions to Gross Domestic Product [GDP] and create jobs to arrest the scourge of unemployment in the country.

He said that Nigeria needed to expand the scope of ICT to cover more outsourcing because it has the potential of creating many jobs.

According to him, “With proper policy framework and implementation, the nation will be able to solve the challenge of unemployment using ICT especially in the area of outsourcing.
