The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Monday said some of its fire fighting personnel would be sent to Cameroun for intensive training.

Mr Yakubu Dati, General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Lagos.

Dati said the training was to enhance their proficiency in fire fighting ahead of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Safety Audit slated for March.

He said that officers and men of the Airport Rescue and Fire Fighting Services of FAAN would continue to receive professional training at par with global standards.

According to him, FAAN has adequate fire fighting facilities across the airports in the country, hence the need for more training of its personnel.

“We already have the facilities so we are training them to be able to use those facilities very well.

“Last week, we had the crew commanders/fire fighter initial/renal course at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

“This week, most of them will proceed for training abroad to ensure that they meet up with ICAO standard in terms of training and manpower.

“We are still compiling the names for the training which will take place specifically in Cameroun,” Dati said.

He also expressed confidence that Nigeria would perform excellently in the audit, stressing that there was a strategic collaboration among the aviation agencies toward achieving the feat.

“We are very confident that Nigeria will perform very well.

“I cannot give you all the details of what we have done because it is an audit, but we are closing all the open areas,” Dati said.
