The Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial Zone and former governor of Abia State, Theodore Orji, has debunked a media report that he was booed in Osisioma Local Government Area of the state last weekend.

Sen. Orji, who spoke with newsmen on his way to Abuja after attending the burial of the husband of Sen. Nkechi Nwaogu, at the weekend, alongside Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and other dignitaries, expressed disappointment with some section of the media.

He maintained that a recent publication which reported that he was booed at the burial goes to show that some media operators rather than maintain the lofty ideals of the profession had chosen to throw professionalism overboard.

“I did not go to the event alone. From the courtesy call on the Abia State Governor, we moved in an entourage to the venue of the funeral.

“When we got there, it was a loud sounding ovation that greeted us, especially me. But I have made up my mind not to join issues with them because already everybody knows where they are coming from.

“People were thronging forward to touch me, saying that I am a good man, a man of his words and that I gave them a man like myself who has kept his word. They were waving and cheering. So I don’t know where the newspaper got their story from.

“If you look at the story, you will see that it has no name, you will also see that all it contained were the same lies that had been told over the years.

“Then you begin to wonder where professionalism is. I also know that the owner of that newspaper was invited to the burial, but failed to attend because he knows what was awaiting him.”
