Lagos – Joseph Yobo, Nigeria’s record holder with 101 caps, has revealed his passion for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after the league body signed an agreement with the football star for him to play in the domestic league once again. The player said his passion is to give back to the league that helped to shape the career of so many of the current and past players.

The agreement gives an incentive to former international players to return to the Nigerian league before retiring. It was a similar agreement that saw Sani Keita signed for FC IfeanyiUba and it is meant to shore up spectators, who will throng the stadium for the stars.

Meanwhile, a source very close to Yobo revealed to Independent that the player is very much eager to contribute to the development of the local league.

The source, who declined to be named, said he was very sure the former Super Eagles captain is looking forward to signing for any club in order to give back to the league that threw him up.

“He is looking forward to playing in the league; this is not issue of money because Yobo is very much comfortable. When NFF came up with the idea, he bought it completely and said he cannot wait to start.

“He is very passionate over this and is just waiting for the right club. To him, the league made virtually all of them so they have to do everything to bring it up and reposition it.

“Yobo is just giving back to the place that made him what he is now and he is passionate about that. The NFF revealed the idea to him during his testimonial and he was excited about that,” the source said.

Yobo has had a well traveled career previously playing for Norwich City, Fenerbahçe, Everton, Marseille and Standard Liege. He will find out next week which team he shall be drafted into.
