Hundreds of worshipers cheated death in Jos, Plateau State, on Sunday as a bomb explosion went off at ECWA Church, Tudunwa, Angwan Yashi, near the Federal Secretariat in Jos North Local Government Area of the state around 11.ooam, when the church was filled to capacity.

The timely intervention of a guard, who noticed the bomb placed a few meters from the premises of the church and threw the object far away before it went off, saved the day.

The explosion comes one week after a mosque and restaurant in Jos were bombed, leaving scores.

Daily Independent gathered from a witness who lived near the church that the “massive” explosion was very loud. He said the bomb was believed to have been detonated  from outside the church premises and no life was lost.

“The guard picked the bomb and threw it (away from) the church before it exploded instantly. No one was killed from the explosion, although the guard sustained injuries on the leg and is currently being treated,” a worshiper said.

Another witness  told Daily Independent that the anti-bomb squad, on arrival, discovered another explosive device that was planted in the restroom of the church.

Police spokesperson for the Plateau State command, Abuh Emmanuel, told newsmen  that anti-bomb experts have been deployed to the scene and no one was killed in the church.
