Paris attack

Saint-Denis, the north of Paris in France came under what has been described as the worst terror attack on the country on Friday night as suicide bombers and other terrorists bombed and opened fire on a theatre where people had gathered for a concert and restaurants and bars near the Stade De Paris Stadium, while the country’s national football team filed out for a match against Germany.

This has prompted the government of France to declare a state of emergency.

The terrorists, about eight of them, attacked with AK-47s, others reportedly with bombs strapped to them attacked on a night when thousands of Paris residents and tourists trouped out for fun at the Bataclan Theatre where the musical band, Eagles of Death Metal were playing and football fans were enjoying the match between France and world champion Germany.

Scores were killed in the coordinated attacks, leaving the nation and the world in shock and mourning.

At the end, officials said about 128 people were killed. Paris Prosecutor spokeswoman, Agnès Thibault-Lecuivre, has been quotes as saying eight extremists were dead, seven of them in suicide bombings, after the attacks. Three of them blew themselves up as the police closed up on them. Reports said no fewer than six locations were attacked in and near the capital.

Paris prosecutor, François Molins, who confirmed this to reporters on Saturday, said five suspected attackers have been ‘neutralized’.

Reports indicate that the worst carnage occurred at Bataclan concert hall, where the attackers entered firing rifles and shouting “Allah akbar.” At least 88 were left dead.

A journalist, Julien Pearce, who escaped the Bataclan attack said: “The terrorists shot at us for 10 to 15 minutes. It was a bloodbath.”

Although Pearce said he didn’t hear the attackers speak, he said a friend who escaped heard them talk about Iraq and Syria. He said he later hear the men speaking French.

In a further narration, he said two men dressed in black started shooting and as wounded people fell to the floor, shooting them again in an execution-style.

Details of the attacks as provided by French officials disclosed that at least, 112 were killed at the Bataclan theater, 14 were killed on Rue Bichat at the site of the Le Petit Cambodge restaurant, in the 10th district, while 19 died on Rue de Charonne in the 11th district, outside a bar called La Belle Equipe.

They also confirmed that four were killed on Avenue de la Republique, in the 10th district, four others died outside the Stade de France, in Saint-Denis, north of Paris.

Four attackers were killed, including three who were wearing explosives belts, at Bataclan during the police raid, Paris police spokesman Michel Cadot told France Info radio.

Meanwhile, there is great alarm over the mode of operation employed by the terrorists, which officials say is more of an ISIS style than Al Qaeda.

Michael Dorio, brother of a member of the band that was playing at the Bataclan concert, said he spoke to Eagles of Death Metal drummer Julian Dorio about 20-30 minutes after the attack, who said they stopped playing immediately they heard the gunshots, hit the deck and went backstage and exited.

Meanwhile traffic on several subway lines has been interrupted as a precaution. The identity of the attackers were yet to be disclosed. Although, they all have reportedly been killed, french authorities have said they are on the look out for their accomplices.
