This book, ‘There Is Greatness In You,’ is the second from the stable of this young and budding author and journalist, Grace Edema. Her first work, an inspirational book titled ‘Who Is Enoch Adejare Adeboye?’ is a biography of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of Nigeria (RCCG), Pastor (Dr.) Enoch Adeboye, meant to encourage the young ones to live a godly life and imbibe the virtue of hard work if they want to rise to the top.

In this second book, Edema takes the message further, as an inspirational and motivational writer and speaker, by bringing out the keys and steps to greatness and success.

These keys are what young ones really need in these days when it seems that all hopes are lost, with the poor economy and frightening high rate of unemployment in Nigeria.

In the six-chapter compact book, the author, a graduate of both Computer Engineering and Sociology, tries to make the Nigerian youth realise that all hopes is not. Rather than despair, she urges them to wake up from slumber and worries to discover themselves. According to her, everyone has an innate ability or talent, which if discovered and tapped into, will take one to the top.

The book begins with “An Overview” which takes the position of an introduction. Here, the author takes an extract from GZK Fashion School Community’s Facebook page where the writer, a Law graduate, took steady, but difficult steps to realise her passion and dream of becoming a fashion designer. She succeeded due to her determination, not minding all the frustrations, pains and tears on her way. In this short Overview, Edema releases what she calls the “Four Mysteries of Discovery”, which set the tone for the rest of the book.

In Chapter One titled “The Greatness In You”, she states that every individual has special talents, abilities or gifts, which if discovered and out to use, will lead one to greatness.

According to her, “Some are more fulfilled, happier, greater and more successful that others because they are able to identify the greatness in them and make a source of likelihood from it.”

Edema in the second chapter, titled “You Must Discover Your Talents,” speaks on the need for the people to discover their talents or passion and following them. She refers to the popular Nigerian female writer, Chimamanda Adiche, whose parents wanted her to become a medical doctor, but she pursued her passion.

Today she is one of greatest writers in the world and has won several awards.

Edema harps on why people must discover their talents and how they can make their career choices if they want to succeed in life.

Chapter Three, titled “Talent Test”, gives a practical guide to self-discovery and some indispensable values for success. In Chapter Four she stresses the need for education, its importance, where one can get the appropriate education needed for career successes.

Edema in chapter five treats the factors that hinder self-discovery and stresses that with persistence, sacrifice and excellence, one’s dreams must be actualised.

However, she warns against imitation, laziness, peer pressure and the dependence on family’s wealth.

In the sixth and last chapter, titled, “You Need A Mentor”, Edema stresses the need for young ones to have experienced people who will have positive and impactful influence on their lives.

Such people should be in the position to help counsel and guide them. She also lists types and qualities of mentors. She concludes the chapter by touching on the importance of networking and the use of modern technology and social media.

In all, Edema in this compact book, tries in a very simple and well illustrated book, to provide the young ones in a concise volume, all they need to know if they want to reach the top. The book is a good companion for all youths, especially secondary school students and undergraduates. It is also good for anyone who is involved in guidance and counseling as well as those in motivational works.

It is also a good companion for teachers and pastors. Parents should also endeavour to have copies of it for their children while it could also be used as gift items for young people on special occasions.
