Sellers of soft drinks and sachet water are recording high sales in Hadejia, Jigawa, due to hot weather condition.

The rise in the temperature to over 30 degree celsius in the past weeks had exposed residents to excruciating heat.

The prevailing hot weather condition, coupled with epileptic power supply, was also making life unbearable for the residents, leading to significant surge in the demand for chilled soft drinks and water.

A check showed that the prices of ice block had shot up by about 20 percent in the past three weeks.

A small size ice block now sells for N50 as against its old price of N30 before the heat.

A sachet of cold water costs N10, a can of Maltina drink sells for N100 while a bottle of coke goes for N70.

Alhaji Ahmed Salisu, a shop keeper, expressed joy over the appreciable patronage and hopes the trend continued.

Salisu said that he was recording high sales due to increased demand of cold water in view of the excruciating heat in the area.

He explained that he sold about 500 sachets of water daily as against less than 100 during the harmattan season.

“My sales of water and soft drinks have increased. I am happy and making good savings,” he said.

Malam Gambo Bala, a resident, said he spent much on soft drinks and water, to quench the thirst associated with the heat.
