Heartland of Owerri will host former champions, Kano Pillars, on Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, in a must-win match for the Naze Millionaires, who are desperate for points to escape the drop.

Despite overcoming Niger Tornadoes 2-0 on Wednesday in a rescheduled match in Owerri, the former CAF Champions League finalists are still deep in the relegation waters.

They are 18th on the table having played 34 matches and earned 40 points. Incidentally, a win for Heartland over Pillars may not completely guarantee safety to the host if the other teams like MFM and Warri Wolves win.

Luckily for Heartland, both Warri Wolves and MFM, placed 17th and 16th respectively, are playing away . This will give Heartland the psychological boost knowing that a win over Pillars and a possible loss for the duo will see the Naze Millionaires climb above them.

Warri Wolves will be away to Sunshine Stars in Akure while MFM will entertain Niger Tornadoes in Lokoja.

Heartland will accumulate 43 points if they overcome Pillars. That will take them to the 16th position, one spot above relegation with one match to go for the season.

Pillars, on the other hand, still nurse continental ambition and will fancy their chances to pick at least a point in Owerri. But a win for Mai Su Gida will take them to 54 points, which will give them hope for a continental finish, though depending on the results of the league’s front runners.
