Lagos – Relegation threatened Heartland of Owerri will be the guest of Abia Warriors at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday. The Naze Millionaires failed to make their home advantage count in Sunday’s week 22 encounter against leaders, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi.
The 0-0 result on Sunday left the Owerri side at abysmal 18th place on the table, just one place above the drop with 23 points from 21 rounds of matches. The former league winners have lost once and drawn four of their last five matches, gaining four points from a possible 15.
The worst result in the second stanza of the ongoing season, according to a fan of the club spoken to, was the May 18 goalless draw against Plateau United in Owerri. That was the match pundits predicted three points to Heartland.
The Warriors are hosting Heartland on the backdrop of a 0-2 week 22 loss away to El-Kanemi in Maiduguri. The Kennedy Boboye wards have lost the touch that placed them among the table toppers for greater part of the first stanza and have found the going very tough in the second stanza after having not won a game since the start.
They have lost two matches and drew two in the four-week old second stanza of the league. The worst of the performances came when they lost 1-2 at home to visiting Sunshine Stars of Akure in one of the week 20 matches.
But Heartland will need nothing but a good result to ward off the relegation threat hanging on their neck.
