Unknown gunmen has killed a 30-year-old man in Bauchi and kidnapped his nephew.

The incident reportedly occurred on morning Monday at the New GRA area in Bauchi. The assailants who rode on motorcycle shot and killed the man, and escaped thereafter with the seven year old primary two pupil of LYS Academy, Bauchi.

Mother of the kidnapped child, Nkiru Lilian Izuorah, who narrated her ordeal to journalists on Thursday, said she was taking her son, who she identified as Gerald, to school on Monday when the gunmen attacked.

She said, “I was inside the car with my brother in-law, Chukwujekwu, who just finished his National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) year, when the gunmen stopped us and shot him.

“My husband was not in town the day the incident happened. He is the one who normally take the children to school. I just drove out of our house at GRA when  two men on a motorcycle stopped us.

” I wanted to reverse when one of them brought out a gun, then I immediately turned off the engine. The car was a tinted glass so the one carrying a gun came close and started peeping inside the car. He saw my brother in law in the back seat and he raised his gun and shot him”

Nkiru said the gunmen took her son whom they put on their motorcycle and fled. She said the residents in the neighbourhood were too scared to stop them because they were armed

“It is only God that knows what their mission is. My hope is in God. My prayer is that my son will be rescued alive. It is sad that they took away Jekwu’s life. He just came to spend time with us because he had acquired a shop in Gombe and my husband was planning to settle him to enable him start a business. He had asked him to list all the goods  that he needed so that when he comes back from his journey  he will settle him.”

When contracted, Police Public Relations Officer at the Bauchi Command, ASP Haruna Mohammed, said police has commenced investigation into the matter.
