Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Shonong village in Riyom local government of Plateau State on Saturday afternoon killing two operatives of the state security outfit Operation Rainbow and two villagers.

An eye witness from Shonong village, Baba Bala told Daily independent that the villagers had no option than to flee their homes when the gunmen attacked.

He added that the two dead security operatives had responded to a distress call from the village but were over powered and killed by the gunmen who equally made away with their riffles.

The witness further alleged that the combined security forces comprising of Operation Rainbow and Special task Force (STF) on Jos crisis numbering 40 armed men and two armoured personnel carriers have fled the village as a result of persistent attacks on them.

However, the spokesman of the Special Task Force Captain Ikediche Iweha attributed the attacks to a dispute between men of Operation Rainbow and Fulani herdsmen in the locality.
