A civil society organization, Centre for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), has condemned the appointment of Special Assistants as Local Government Chairmen in Kogi State.

Executive Director of CHRCR, Idris Abdul, who spoke to Daily Independent on the matter, described the action of Kogi Governor, Idris Wada, as unconstitutional and an attempt to destroy the local government administration in the state.

Said he: “We condemn it in totality and call for its reversal without further delay.

“We call on the state assembly that is created by law to reverse this illegality perpetuated by this non-performing government in Kogi state.”

Gov. Wada recently appointed Senior Special Assistants and posted them to the 21 local governments to take over the administration without oath of office or oath of allegiance.

However, the decision did not go down well with both the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) who got a favourable judgment from the court that annulled the local government election conducted in May 2013.

Comrade Abdul described the present practice by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government as worrisome.
