The Centrum Initiative for Development and Fundamental Rights Initiative (CEDRA), a Kaduna based Civil Society Organisation (CSO) has asked Governor Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai of Kaduna state to sack his Special Adviser on Investment and Promotions, Mr. Jimi Lawal.

The Chairman, Board Trustees of CEDRA, Dr.  John DanFulani who made the request while addressing journalists and Civil Society Groups at the Catholic Social Centre Kaduna on the occasion of the first 100 days assessment of President Muhammad Buhari and Mallam Nasir El-Rufai said that if the governor El-Rufai  refused to sack Lawal, they would embark on a protest.

The BoT Chairman stated that, “Jimmy Lawal who is the governor’s SA on Investments Promotion was enmeshed in multiple scandals in the private sector and was also reported by Sahara reporters as a wanted man in the U.S for fraud related offences.

“There is no doubt that Governor El-Rufai has full knowledge of his pedigree”. CEDRA, according to the chairman, believed in El-Rufai’s philosophy of running a slim government and appointment of aides from many parts of the federation to help him accomplish his mission in Kaduna State.

“CEDRA totally accepts the fact that he acted within the power bestowed on him in Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.

“If criteria used for the appointment of aides were loyalty, hard work, good track record, credibility, moral, uprightness and share vision, the inclusion of Jimi Lawal was wrong.

If that is the case, CEDRA believe that inclusion of Jimi A. Lawal has polluted the puritanical stance of El-Rufai’s administration,” he said.

DanFulani also stated that Jimi Lawal’s alleged role in the now bankrupt Alpha Merchant Bank had put him at logger heads with a Senate Committee.

The Rights Group also queried the appointment of three persons from one local government as commissioners on ground of merit, while some have none, saying it was wrong and marginalization; an imbalance that should be corrected.  The retirement of Permanent Secretaries five years ahead of their retirement age and appointing others as replacement was condemned as been unfair.

On the demolition of houses in Zaria, Dr. john DanFulani said the decision taken was done in a hurry; under Three Weeks’ Notice and demanded to know what would be fate of the affected people since the governor has been stopped from further demolition of houses marked in Kaduna metropolis by the Courts. He further condemned the non-indigene policy of El-Rufai saying Kaduna alone cannot be the one implementing it when Kaduna indigenes cannot claim other states.

The CEDRA Group expressed its bitterness and disappointment over the continuous silence from the opposition PDP by it not criticizing the bad policies of the ruling party, saying it was deathly in politics.
