The dust generated over the killing of Tarok natives in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State by soldiers is taking a new twist, as Ngwang Ishi Otarok, a socio cultural and political group, has accused the Special Task Force on Jos crisis STF,3rd Amored Division of the Nigeria Army, Jos, and Plateau State government of planned genocide against the Tarok people.

Taroh villages which include Kadarko, Mutum Biyu, Wadatan Arewa, and Wadatan Kasuwa all in Wase Local Government Area in Southern Plateau were attacked by persons suspected to be soldiers, leaving over 50 dead and 150 others with various degrees of injuries.

Several houses, farm produce and livestock worth millions of naira were destroyed in the raid.

Taroh group Chairman, Lohbut Jangle, and the Secretary, Zingfa Danbaki, while addressing a press conference in Jos on Wednesday, said that on May 2, there was an unprecedented presence of heavy military vehicles and carriers conveying men, arms and ammunition from the 3rd Armored Division of the Nigerian Army, Jos, in Wase town, which the soldiers used to invade Tarok towns and villages in Wase Local Government Area.

According to the group chairman, “After arming themselves with all logistics including petrol, they stormed Tahok  Kardako communities, killing, maiming and burning houses of the natives.

He alleged that “the  local militia from Wase town  during the invasion served as guides as  armed soldiers descended on the people for two consecutive days unleashing terror and horror on helpless and armless civilian for just no cause.”

According to the group chairman, “A notable trend in this unbridled, callous, and unwholesome impunity is the scenario where even Police and Civil Defense officials on duty were shot, killed and burnt at their duty posts.”

He  further stressed that the attack on their people were not carried out by any ethnic group within the locality, rather, it was carried out  by soldiers from STF and 3rd amoured Division, who instead of defending and protecting the people, have decided to kill and destroy their settlement.

“We know that one of the results which saw to the defeat of the so-called anointed candidate in the governorship election in the state came from Kadarko District and this greatly angered the present government which now decided to unleashed its anger on the people,” he said.
