The Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has embarked on inspection of projects he inherited from the administration of Martins Elechi to ascertain their completion status.

The project include the ongoing construction of two hostel blocks, a lecture hall and administration block at the permanent site of the state university and a section of the Abakaliki- Enugu road from the PDP secretariat to the permanent site of the State University.

Others are the Salt City Hotel, the World Trade Centre, the New Secretariat at Ocho Udo City Layout, the ongoing construction of internal roads at Ocho Udo City Layout, the Ebonyi State Broadcasting Corporation (EBBC) and the International Market.

All the projects are situated at the state capital, Abakaliki.

At the Ebonyi Broadcasting Corporation, the governor who was accompanied on the inspection by his Deputy, Dr.  Kelechi Igwe, the members of the State Executive Council, the elders council of the Divine Mandate Organisation and other stakeholders were received on arrival by the Acting General Manager of the Station, Mrs.  Bene Onwe and the management staff.

Responding to an address by the Acting General Manager,  Umahi assured that his administration would  do all within its powers to ensure that the station attain full digitisation.

At the meat market, the governor who was not comfortable with the environmental condition of the market, told the traders  that the abattoir and the general environmental condition of the market would  be given a face-lift.

At the Salt City Hotel, Governor Umahi observed that the project which was contracted to CAT Construction Group in 2001 and with over eighty per cent of the contract cost so far paid by the state government had  not attained 50 per cent completion.

He directed that further development of the project as a hotel be stopped, while the government would look into the usage of the facility for another purpose.

The governor, at the site of the dualisation of a section of the Abakaliki – Enugu Road announced the termination of the contract which was awarded to China Civil Engineering Construction Company by the administration of Chief Martin Elechi at the cost of N4.2 billion.

Governor Umahi said that the termination became necessary because the state government did not obtain approval from the Federal Government, the original owner of the road before embarking on the project.

At the New Secretariat Complex, Ocho Udo City Layout, Governor Umahi observed with dismay that the secretariat which was commissioned by the last administration had  not been completed.

He also visited the Ebonyi Pipe Production Factory where he was conducted round by the Consultant Engineer, Engr. Ben. Okah.

The Governor apparently satisfied with the operations of the factory said his administration was negotiating with a company in China to acquire more sophisticated machines to boost the operations of the company.

He charged the management  to pay attention to the safety of the workers.
