One of the rising stars of professional boxing in Nigeria, Olaide ‘Fijaborn’ Fijabi, has expressed his desire to bag the vacant national light welterweight title at the next GOtv Boxing Night slated for December in Lagos. Fijabi, winner of the best boxer award at the third edition of the GOtv Boxing Night; a honour which earned him a million naira in cash and the Mojisola Ogunsanya trophy, resumed training in Lagos during the week. And the Lagos-based boxer, who had an unblemished amateur career that saw him win 35 fights in a row before turning pro, said: “I am back in training.

The GOtv Boxing Night is almost here. “I will be gunning for a national title and I am determined to win. Nothing will stop me,” added Fijabi, who has also won his two professional fights to date.

Fijabi’s confidence is based on his brilliance in the ring which saw him win the national amateur title three times along with multiple gold medals at the National Sports Festival. “No boxer in my cadre has defeated me,” he continued.

“It will not happen now. My target is to be world champion and by the grace of God, it will happen very soon.

“The support GOtv and Flykite are giving to boxing makes me confident that this is possible. Without GOtv, I would not have turned pro. Those who turned pro way back are still living from hand to mouth, but now, things have improved,” he added.
