Golf is beginning to improve the life of players despite its stature as a growing sport in Nigeria; players are now becoming socially visible with financial gains in tow.
Sunday Olapade , number two in the order of Nigerian ranking, toldIndependent that golf has changed his life for the better financially and socially.
The Miccom Golf Club, Ada, Osun State and Ibori Golf and Country Club, Asaba member said that he has become a proud owner of a comfortable bungalow, a car and manages a personal business.
Olapade also believes that golf is a lucrative sport that people should embrace rather than everyone looking only the direction of football.
“I have been very comfortable as golfer. Golf is a sport that has changed my life positively in terms of financial blessing and it has also enhanced my social status too.
“If through golf I have been able to build myself a comfortable bungalow, bought a good car for leisure, what more can I ask from God. I’m the bread winner of my family. All my younger ones, I take care of their needs. That is their education and other expenses,” Olapade said.
On the impression that golf is only for the rich he said, “People really don’t know that golf is a lucrative sport, they think is just football alone and that only the rich play the game. That is wrong impression; I’ll always encourage people to play golf, because there are lots of benefits in the game.
Sadly, Olapade could not perform at the just concluded West African Golf Tour (WAGT) owing to some circumstances beyond his control, but promised to bounce back in subsequent tournaments.
