An alleged ginger thief (name withheld) was recently killed in Kwoi in the Southern part of Kaduna while trying to break into the house of a retired Army General to rob them of their product.

Trading in ginger is said to be a lucrative business in Southern Kaduna.

Sometimes it is exported to other parts of the country and even abroad.

It is a product that could be used for production of fruit juice, spices, and is also said to be medicinal.

People, therefore, traded in it in large quantities.

Sources in the town told Daily Independent that the wife of the retired General who is involved in ginger trading, for some time now had suffered losses due to the constant stealing of her products.

According to the source, the General’s wife lost close to N3 million worth of goods recently due to theft.

On the fateful day that one of the suspects was reportedly killed, the General’s wife was said to have alerted security men in advance of their arrival premises.

He was said to have been gunned down while climbing through the fence at the back of the door, their usual route into the house.
