German professional basketball team, Giessen 46ers (BBL) agreed terms with 30-year-old Nigerian ex-international power forward, Ekenechukwu Ibekwe.

Ibekwe, prior to the deal with Giessen, was to sign at United in Australian NBL league. The ex-international, last summer, played at Manati (BSN) in Puerto Rican league. In 11 games he featured for Manati, Ibekwe had 9.1ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.2bpg. He helped them to make it to the cup final.

In the outgoing season, Ibekwe played at New Zealand Breakers (NBL) in Australian league. Playing in 32 games, he recorded 11.8ppg, 6.1rpg and 1.8bpg and contributed to his team winning the league title even though they ended the regular season at the second place. Consequently, he was named to Australian NBL All-Imports Team and 2nd Team.

Among past achievements, Ibekwe was voted All-NCAA African 1st Team back in 2007 at his college time. He also represented Nigeria at the Olympic Games in London (United Kingdon) three years ago.

He has also played professionally in France, Israel (Ironi Ashkelon), Spain (Gipuzkoa), Turkey (Torku Konyaspor, Kepez Bld and Bandirma Kirmizi), Bosnia (Bosna-Royal), Germany (BBC Bayreuth and Artland Dragons), Puerto Rico (Carolina) and Iran (Petrochimi).

Ibekwe attended University of Maryland until 2007 and it is his ninth season as a professional player.
