Following his side’s goalless draw against host, Kano Pillars, on Sunday, Chinedu Efugh, the Heartland Football Club of Owerri captain, has revealed that his team’s plan in the NPFL match worked.

Efugh explained that the Naze Millionaires adopted two different approaches for the match, which was to play an attacking style in the first half, and containing the host in the second half.

The Heartland defender believed that their tactics worked well for them at a very difficult ground.

“We knew that we had to score first if we hoped to pick any point from Pillars because they are a tough side. That was why we went all out in the first half.

“Seeing their persistence, we had to adjust the plan in the second half and played with a different approach. We contained them and we are happy for the result,” Efugh said.

The Pillars versus Heartland match was the only one at the weekend that did not produce any goal and the Naze Millionaires will be happier for it.

Pillars started with a bang. Rabiu Ali shot twice in the opening minutes but Heartland goalkeeper, Ebele Obi, was alert to thwart him on both occasions, and showed their intent to leave Kano with a result.

In was a higly tactical game in which both teams ensured they had their backsides well protected before surging forward.
