Gaidam Commiserates With Victims Of Suicide Bomb Attack

Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has condemned Sunday’s suicide bomb attack on a  Damaturu market which killed 19 people and left 47 others injured.

Gaidam stated this in a Press statement signed by his the Director of Press Affairs, Abdullahi Bego described the bombing as callous, barbaric and unjustifiable.

Bego said, “This is another sad day in our State in which innocent people were again the target of blood-thirsty terrorists.

His Excellency Governor Gaidam’s thoughts and prayers are with the families of victims and those who sustained injuries. The governor has condemned the attack as callous, barbaric and unjustifiable.

“He has also called on security agencies in the State to step up surveillance and the people to remain very vigilant about happenings in their areas and report any suspicious persons or movements to the nearest security point or jurisdiction”.

The statement added that the governor had  also directed hospital authorities at the Sani Abacha Specialist Hospital, Damaturu where the injured were been taken for medical attention to provide immediate and free medical attention to victims.

In another development, Yobe state Police Command also urged the people of the state to be security conscious of unknown persons and report to the security suspected movements.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Toyin Gbagedesin told Daily Independent in a Telephone interview that the Female suicide bomber detonated the explosive while undergoing screening at the gate of the entrance of the Market.

“The female suicide Bomber a girl of about 10 years carried the bomb in a bag and detonated it during screening. He added that  the Police, Red Cross and FRSC conveyed the victims to the hospital for treatment, and called on people to watch out especially people carrying bags and be careful at screening places”.
