The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, has challenged the 3, 490 graduands of the institution’s 2013/2014 set and its affiliates to put into practice what they learnt during their studies to create jobs and not wait for non-available jobs.

This is as the Federal Government has been urged to release the balance of N2.7 billion out of the university’s 2013 Needs Assessment Intervention Fund, to enable the institution address some of its developmental challenges.

Akanji, who spoke at the 24th convocation of the institution on Saturday, said the situation in Nigeria today has made it expedient for graduates to put all they have learnt into practice by focusing on job creation instead of waiting for non-existent white-collar jobs.

According to him, “It is becoming more evident that professional life in business is not just mobile; it is getting a bit footloose,” and urged the graduands to ensure that “whatever comes your way in terms of job, make the best of it, while you are discovering yourself, if you have not done so yet”.

He stressed that life on campus has exposed the graduands to all the rudiments of life, no matter the difficulties, and urged them to embark on professional lives to make the difference.
