The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Vunoklang in Gerie Local
Government Area of Adamawa State, CSP Okafor Okozie, two other police
officers as well as over 50 citizens of the area were killed by
suspected Fulani herdsmen.

An eyewitness told our Correspondent that “the herdsmen came in
droves into Gereng, Koh, Demsare, Dikajam, Taahbongo villages and
launched the attack killing and burning all the villages”.

According to him, the attack may be unconnected with the over five
months crisis where a young Fulani  boy was allegedly killed when
their cows destroyed their farmlands, stressing that the attack is a
reprisal attack on the people.

It was understood that the Bwate people who were victims had earlier
reported to the security about a planned attack but were told to ask
the Divisional Police officer to see him.

Furthermore, it was equally reported that the Lamido Adamawa Dr.
Barkindo ALiyu Mustapha had some two weeks back alerted the security
agencies about the impending attack but until the attack took place,
nothing was done about it.

But the genesis of this attack is said to have culminated in the
alleged disappearance of a ten year old herdsboy whose body could not
be found.

This incident was said to have taken place about five months back
thus fueling the saying that the fulanis never forget an incident.

What further makes people shiver is the fact that the security
operatives were warned before hand and yet were too slow to act.

The Police Commissioner incharge of Adamawa State Ghazali Mohammed
has confirmed the story saying the bwatte people did visited to
complain but before they could do something about it, the deed had
been done.

Mohammed disclosed that it was apparent that it could be as a result
of the disappearance of the 10 years old boy that brought about this

Our Correspondent reports that a school principal, Mr. John Buba of
G.S.S. of Kor Secondary School was killed while other persons
including a soldier were severely injured along aside the dead
estimated at over fifty.

In a related development, the Brigade Commander of the 23 Brigade,
Brigadier General Abba Poopola has revealed that his men have arrested
three suspects and would hand them over to the police for further

Meanwhile, the police said they have launched an investigation in the
matter adding that they have arrested a suspect who is co-operating
with them.
