The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has called on FCT residents who engage in early morning jogging to always observe the basic traffic rules while carrying out the exercise.

This call is coming on the heels of cases of pedestrians being knocked down by motorists especially during the early morning exercise.

The Kubwa Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Okonkwo Chima, who gave the advise at the weekend during the Unit’s monthly early morning jogging exercise, urged them to ensure their visibility by putting on clothes that are reflective enough to motorists.

He also advised them to always avoid backing the vehicles, but to jog against traffic in order to clearly see the on-coming vehicles and to avoid being hit by them.

“The basic rules in jogging is to make sure you are visible. You must wear clothes that are reflective to ensure they are seen by on-coming vehicles. You should also jog against traffic as backing traffic may show wrong signal to the motorist which may lead to crash”, he added.

Chima also called on motorists to apply caution by insistence on traffic observance, bearing in mind that pedestrians also have the right of the road.

The Unit Commander disclosed that the officials engage in the routine early morning exercise to keep fit as well as to ensure they have a strong workforce for effective and proactive service delivery.

The FRSC also used the opportunity to visit the Kubwa General hospital, Abuja, where the officials commiserated with the victims of road accident at the Accident and Emergency unit, the medical and the surgical wards of the hospital.
