As part of its mission to give back to the society towards ensuring that life is worth living for the people, a foundation established by the immediate past Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, Olajumoke Akinjide known as Olajumoke Akinjide Foundation (OAF) on Thursday made a donation of medical supplies and equipment worth millions of naira to the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan.

At the presentation of the items held at the hospital premises, which was attended by  representative of Akinjide dynasty, Mogaji Obisesan, Olajire Obisesan, the Chairperson of the foundation, Modupeola Abimbola Akindeko and some of the members of the management of the hospital, the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Temitope Alonge said the donation was a divine intervention.

Alonge said that the prolonged strike in the hospital had adversely affected the generation of revenue by the hospital and that the hospital was beginning to experience lack of some of the items brought by the foundation.

The CMD, who said the donation was the second of the gesture by the same foundation recalled that the first consignment came to the hospital just before the outbreak of Ebola virus last year and some of the items brought were still being used till date.

Alonge said that the hospital was grateful to the OAF for its commitment to the wellbeing of Nigerians, adding that the donated items would be judiciously put into use to benefit as many as possible.

He said just like some items from the previous donation were given out to some Primary Health Centres in the state, some of the current donation would also be given to the needy areas in the name of the foundation.

In her presentation, Akin-Deko said the charity organisation was established in August, 2005 to help people to help themselves, noting that “everybody is born to give back to the society and the foundation through the initiator is only fulfilling that purpose.”

She said that the foundation was driven by a philosophy rooted in the maxim that people should not be concerned about what the country can do for them but to be concerned about what they can do for their country.

“We can help government to help us, no government can fund everything in the society and what is important for all of us is to develop passion for giving and we will all see that our society will be better for all of us live in”, she added.

The OAF Chairperson was full of praises for the medical personnel in the hospital for the services being rendered, stressing that the foundation was thankful to them on behalf of those lives they had sustained and saved through their services, but, who could not come back to say thank you to them.

She assured the hospital that the foundation would not relent in its avowed commitment to making life worth living for the people, promising that it would still come again to give further assistance to the masses through the hospital.
