Foreign Investors’ Interest On Nigerian Equities Still Upbeat Amid Global Challenges

The Nigerian Stock Exchange, NSE, says foreign portfolio investors dominated activities at the nation’s bourse in spite of the sustained global economic and financial challenges.

An analysis of the domestic and foreign investors’ profile on the NSE in January showed that domestic investors conceded about 3.14 percent of their investment profile to foreign investors.

Available transactions data from the nation’s bourse in the period under review indicated that domestic investors’ interests dipped by 48.43 percent in January compared with 53.55 percent recorded in December 2015.

Foreign portfolio investments also increased to 51.57 percent in January as against 46.45 percent achieved in December 2015.

The monthly foreign outflows the data showed outpaced inflows which was consistent with the same period in 2015.

It equally indicated that there was a 23.17 percent decrease in foreign outflows from N34.31 billion in December 2015 to N26.36 billion in January 2016.

Also, foreign inflows decreased by 0.18 percent from N17.04 billion in December 2015 to N17.01 billion in January 2016.

On the whole, investors’ sustained economic and financial challenges impacted negatively on their total investment outlay in January with only N84.1 billion or decline of 23.93 percent against N110.56 billion recorded in December 2015.
