Former Super Falcons coach, Sam Okpodu, has kicked against move by the Nigeria Football Federation to hire a foreign coach for the team.

The Nigeria Football Federation is believed to0 be considering employing an expatriate as the substantive coach for the Super Falcons after sacking Edwin Okon and replacing him with Christopher Danjuma.

Okpodu, who coached Falcons in 2002 and led the team to the African Women Championship victory in Warri, Delta State, but performed miserably at the FIFA World Cup, insisted that NFF must be careful in the hiring of an expatriate coach if it won’t solve the problems of the team.

”Nobody is against a foreign coach but will that solve the problem. We have some fundamental issues that must be corrected. What are the goals on a long and short term basis and who’s suitable to get the job done, it doesn’t matter if it’s a foreign or local coach,” Opodu said.

”Am not against it, I want to believe they know what they are doing but on the flip side, is hiring a foreign Coach a sure guarantee that the coach will solve the problem?”

It will be recalled that the team crashed out of the 2015 FIFA World Cup in Canada after sitting bottom of the group with one point from three matches.
