Only Foreign Coach Can Revive Eagles –Bonfrere

Even as Nigerians are still coming to terms with the sack of Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, former technical adviser to the team, Jo Bonfrere, has said that only a foreign coach can revive and improve the fortunes of the team.

The Dutch said he was unimpressed with the dwindling fortunes of the three-time African champions in recent international outings, saying he supports Keshi’s sack, while also admitting that the team performance has nose-dived since after winning the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa in 2013.

“I think the NFF needs to hire a foreign coach to take charge of the Super Eagles,” Bonfrere said.

“The Super Eagles has failed to make much impact since it won the African Cup of Nations in 2013 and it has to do with the inability of the coaches to take the team to new heights.

“Personally, I don’t think Stephen Keshi has what it takes to take the team beyond where they are now.

“So the decision made by the NFF to sack him was the right one.

“The next task before them now is to carefully look for a capable foreign coach that can help improve the performance of the team.”
