No fewer than five persons were reportedly killed at the weekend in Edo State after a violent clash between two rival cult groups in Edo state.

The cult war between members of Eiye confraternity and Makfight group “separately claimed five lives” around Second East circular area of the State capital

Reports had it that trouble started for the cultists who reportedly mobilize support for political parties following disagreements at a polling centre in Benin City; during the March 11, Assembly election in the State.

A member of the Makfight was said to have been beaten and handed to death during the incident.

It was further gathered that the incident afterwards spread to town as members of the group (Makfight) vowed to avenge the assault on their member.

When contacted for reaction on the cult clash, the State police spokesman, DSP Stephen Onwochei said he was yet to be briefed, stating that he would get in touch with the Divisional Police Officer of the area.
