Finally, Police Arrest Lekki  Robbery Gang

Men of the underworld that  struck at First City Monument Bank Lekki, Lagos  recently where three police men and two civilians were killed  have been arrested.

The gang was smashed by the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command.

Four members of the gang have been arrested. They include Duke Odogbo, 39; Lawrence Kingsley, 31; Ebi Tosan, 20 and Ekelemo Kuete, 30.

Honda Accord 2008 model, purchased by the gang leader with the proceeds from the robbery operation, blackberry Z10 phone, White Apple Iphone 5, a military Fez cap and 130 expended ammunition.

The suspects who were paraded on Wednesday by the commissioner of police, Lagos State, Kayode Aderanti confessed that they carried out the operation.

Duke, the acclaimed leader of the gang, an Ijaw from Warri North Local Government of Delta State said that his friends invited him for bunking but that on getting there, he was told the real job was bank robbery.

“I accepted, we came in two speed boats. We were 11 in number; we drove there and stayed till about 4pm-5pm. I wore army camouflage. I was the first person that entered the bank and I shot fired at the entrance of the bank before my other colleagues joined me. “The money we carted away from the bank was N15million. We escaped through the back of the bank and entered speed boats.

He denied killing anybody saying he was already inside the bank when his colleagues killed the policemen and civilians.

“I was inside the bank when my colleague said they saw a van conveying police men in the traffic. They thought they were after us and fired them. I saw them with two police AK 47 rifles and asked them how they me they got the rifles. They said they killed policemen. I was arrested in Warri one as I was driving, a vehicle was trailing me. I did not know they were police men.

I got N500, 000 as my share of the robbery.”

Ikeleyemo, who was the speed boat driver said, “I am married with two children. I drove one of the speed boats to the robbery scene; I remained in the boat until my colleagues completed the robbery exercise. My elders called me for the robbery. The boat belongs to one OC. We were up to 23 men. We used two boats initially, but one developed fault and was returned. I was inside the boat when the policemen were killed. I did not know who killed them. Those who were at the bank knew who killed them. I was given only N50, 000.

The Lagos CP said, “ on Thursday, 12th March, 2015 at about 5pm, a gang of dare devilled armed robbers through the Lagoon water front on Admiralty way, Lekki Stormed a branch of First City Monument Bank located on the street.”

The robbers, he said immediately went on rampage inside the bank premises ransacking the vault, Automated Teller Machines and dispossessing several members of the staff of their valuables.

“After the movie like action, the bandits left in their trail five corpses, three of which are policemen who though on another assignment patriotically and gallantly engaged the bandits in order to forestall their operations.

The slain policemen were Inspector Bethel Agbobu, Sgt. Odehohwo George and Corporal Imoisiu Ikechukwu. The civilian victims include Mr. Sowemimo Kabiru and Miss Sarah Ibikunle, a fifteen-year old girl who sells around the vicinity of the bank.

The CP stated that the command will not rest on its oars in ensuring that any crime committed in the state was detected and the offenders punished.

He appealed to Lagosians to keep on partnering with the police towards the onerous task of keeping the state safe for business and leisure to thrive.
