Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peter Azi, on Wednesday emerged the Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly after overnight horse-trading between PDP lawmakers and those of APC lawmakers in the state House of Assembly.

Daily independent gathered that the state Governor, Lalong, being a former speaker of the same House of Assembly had to intervention to broker the deal which gave the Peoples Democratic the chance to produce the Deputy speaker after two PDP lawmakers opted out of voting one of their aown, Hon. Instifanus Mwansat, to become the speaker of the House for the second time in less than 8 years.

The consultations which went into the early hours of Wednesday morning in Jos made the PDP candidate for the seat of the speaker Hon. Mwansat to step aside for Hon Peter of APC to become the speaker of the 8th Assembly of the Plateau House of Assembly.

Mr. Azi was member of the assembly from 2007 to 2011, but failed to be re-elected in 2011, however, he contested again in the 2015 elections and won to represent Jos North-West constituency at the state House of Assembly.

It would be recalled that Azi and Mwansat had on Tuesday keenly contested the position of the Speaker, making the election to be inconclusive following a tie of 12 votes each.

Meanwhile, Adamu Gagdi of the PDP, a fresh member, representing Kantana Constituency, was elected Deputy Speaker.

The Plateau State House of Assembly has 24 members with PDP having a slight majority of 13 members.
