Former Flying Eagles coach, John Obuh, has advised Manu Garba not to apply sentiment in the selection of his provisional squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup slated for New Zealand later in the year.

With the competition schedule to begin next month, the World’s football governing body is set to unveil a list of provisional players ahead of the tournament from the list submitted by coaches of each participating countries.

Obuh, who led the Golden Eaglets to the final of the U-17 World Cup in 2009, where the team lost 1-0 to Switzerland, admitted that selecting the best for the World may not be easy.

“As long as the coach has made his decision, I don’t think anybody can change his mind but I know that whether it is being hidden or exposed, it’s still going to be the same thing as long as the coach took his time to select the players.”

“The only thing I will advise him (Manu Garba) do is to make sure that he does not give any player that wasn’t part of his AYC squad an automatic shirt. Since it’s a provisional list, all the players should be made to work their way into the team.”
