The Rivers State government has stated that some faceless individuals and groups in the state, allegedly sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC), have written petitions to security agencies, making allegations against chieftains of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and top government functionaries in Rivers State.
The aim of these petitions, the state government said, is to instigate another round of politically-motivated arrests and harassment of innocent individuals, adding that it is also part of a plan to conduct unlawful raids on the homes of government officials and leaders of the PDP in Rivers State.
The state government said it strongly condemns this latest attempt to disturb the peace of the state, and wishes to warn that intimidation and unlawful arrests by security forces will be resisted by the people of the state.
In a statement by Dr. Austin Tam-George, Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communication,  the Executive Governor of the State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, urged the people of the state to remain vigilant but to go about their business without fear.
The governor also asked security agencies “to always act within the law, and to refuse to be used by desperate politicians who have been rejected by the people of Rivers State”.
Similarly, the latest mass defection of members and stalwarts of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Gokana Local Government Area, to the Peoples’ Democratic Party, has greatly excitedFelix Obuah, chairman of the PDP.
Obuah earnestly welcomes the new members, thanking and congratulating them for their courage and taking the right decision to join the endearing Party.
The Rivers State PDP Chairman describes the defection of over 1000 members of the APC in Gokana to the PDP as a remarkable victory over senator Magnus Abe and “sign of total collapse of the APC in the area, as well as further reassurance of the overwhelming success of the PDP in the Ogoni area and the entire Rivers South-East Senatorial district”.
