The Director General of Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Mrs Nellie Mayshak has said that the three days nationwide verification exercise for Prison, Custom and Immigration retirees would eliminate ghost pensioners and create solid database for pensioners.

The DG who disclosed this via a press statement issued to newsmen in Owerri during the verification, said that the exercise would equally address some anomalies, such as over payment and under payment of pensioners.

Mayshak said that after the verification, a credible and authentic database would be created for all pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), where records of the Next Of Kin of such pensioners would be updated.

According to the her, beneficiaries of the verification exercise are pensioners who did not transit to the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

She advised all sick pensioners should contact the designated telephone numbers or upload their credentials to PTAD through their email for verification.

The DG said PTAD was established in August 2013 with the responsibility of pension management under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), for pensioners who did not transit to Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Some of the pensioners, who spoke to our correspondent in separate interviews during the verification, commended Federal Government for introducing PTAD. A retired custom officer, Mr Nkemdirim Solomon said the verification recorded huge success within the limited days.

He said the verification was necessary because it would help PTAD to identify ghost pensioners and also help to regularise the system.

Mr Jude Anozie lamented that many of those who did not transit to the CPS on retirement, have continued to experience ugly situation with payment of their pensions.

He said with the emergence of the PTAD and the commencement of the verification exercise, there would be great improvement in the system.

The three days verification exercise for Immigration, Prisons and customs in Owerri commenced on July 27.
