Federal Government has ruled out sabotage in the fire incident that engulfed the Federal Ministry of Education, insisting that power surge caused the inferno.

It has also debunked claims, alleging that the fire incident which broke out on Thursday afternoon affected the Finance and Accounts Department.

Authorities at the FME however disclosed on Friday that official investigations into the remote causes of the fire has commenced.

Pandemonium broke out at the eleven story building, housing the Ministries of Education and Police Affairs at about1.30pm, on Thursday, forcing all civil servants occupying the building to scamper for safety after several efforts to use fire extinguishers  to put out the fire failed.

It took the intervention of fire fighters from the Federal Fire Service who arrived the scene at about 1:56pm to put the fire under control.

However, the damage done to the building became obvious on Friday as the entire lift system has packed up.

Saturday Independent also discovered that all the electrical cables from the ground floor to the eleventh floor were badly burnt. It might also take several months for the contractors or maintenance officers to rewire the building.

Director Human Resources Management of FME, Bello Umar who took journalists round on inspection of the damaged facilities said the fire started from the cable box from where it spread through the cable route and burnt them.

He noted that they were amazed to hear on media reports that the accounts department had been consumed by the fire, saying nothing of such happened.

He confirmed that the fire started at the 5th floor and was caused by power surge but was quickly contained by the fire fighters.

Garuba said, “Actual cause of the fire, nobody can actually say this was the cause but we only saw smoke coming out of the trunket of the cables, where all the cables transmitting light at this building are warehoused, that is where the fire started on the 5th floor.

“I conducted you round did you see anything of such, not a single leaf was burnt in this ministry, it is untrue and mischievous for anybody to come and say fire engulf the accounts floor of the federal ministry of education, you have been there yourself.

“The government engineers, technicians have since commenced work on it, they have gone round to survey the damages and investigating the cause of the fire with a view to prevent future occurrence.”
Director, General Services, Ministry of Police Affairs, Metteden Huda collaborated Umar’s claim, insisting that no office was affected by the fire incident.

She said,”We thank God for sparing our lives, nobody was injured and no office got burnt.”
