A House of Representatives member, Hon. Oladipupo Adebutu, has called on the federal government to, as matter of urgency, start rehabilitation of the Sagamu?-Ogijo-Mosimi-Ikorodu Road that links both Lagos and Ogun states.
Adebutu, representing Remo Federal Constituency, maintained that the federal government should fix the road which, according to him, it remains one of Nigeria’s most important petroleum products distribution routes.
The House of Reps member, who made the call while speaking with our correspondent yesterday, disclosed that he had already moved a motion in respect of the road rehabilitation during the plenary of the House of Representatives last Tuesday.
Noting that the road hosts several strategic installations and industrial plants such as the Pipelines and Products Marketing Company Limited (PPMC), Adebutu said the “deplorable condition of the Sagamu-Mosimi section of the road continuously poses great danger to lives and property in the surrounding communities.”
He added that ?the situation has caused high rate of fatal crashes, created gridlock and provided ample opportunities for armed robbery attacks on commuters and residents.
The lawmaker, however, disclosed that he had received several petitions from the local communities decrying the deplorable condition ?of the road.
He noted that the strategic nature of the route necessitates heavy vehicular traffic, mainly petrol tankers and other haulage vehicles servicing the industries in the axis, hence the need for urgent intervention by the Federal Government.

He stressed that due to the bad state of the road and inflammable nature of the products being regularly conveyed, it had become imperative for the concerned authorities to give prompt attention to the road.
“Apart from raising the motion on infrastructure in the House of Representatives, I will also be working assiduously with the House Committee on Works to ensure the reconstruction of the road is on the priority list of the 2016 budget proposals of the Federal Ministry of Works”, Adebutu stated.
He reassured members of the public, particularly the residents of Ogijo and Sagamu, that the matter of the road was on the front burner for prompt legislative action.
