The Federal Government, through its Presidential Air Fleet, on Monday in Abuja, handed over two Agusta Westland AW101 Presidential Helicopters to be deployment by the Nigerian Air Force for the counter-insurgency battle in the north east states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe.

Both helicopters were acquired between 2014 and 2015 by the Federal Government.

According to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal, Sadique Abubakar, both helicopters will be immediately reconfigured and deployed to the Northeast for the use of Nigerian troops.

One of the helicopters, he continued, will be configured and deployed as an air ambulance, while second will be used as a troop carrier.

Specifically, he continued, “the Air Ambulance will carry a Trauma Unit, to ensure that injured troops get immediate medical assistance during airlift.”
