The Presidential Initiative Committee for the North East (PINE) has said the Federal Government has developed a comprehensive redevelopment marshal plan for the sub region, especially as regards internally displaced persons (IDPs).

Chairman of the committee, Professor Soji Adelaja, said this at the distribution of relief materials in Alkaleri Local Council area of Bauchi State.

He said the Federal Government’s gesture was a deliberate measure to alleviate the sufferings of the displaced persons brought about by insurgency.

Adelaja, who was represented  by a committee member, Dahiru Yusuf Abdullahi, at the flag-off and subsequent distribution of the relief materials to the IDPs in Bauchi State, said the materials distribution in the state was being facilitated by National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), PINE, Red Cross and other partners.

Adelaja,  who also heads the Rehabilitation and Resettlement committee on IDPs in the sub-region, itemised the relief materials being distributed as food and non-food that included rice, maize, spaghetti, salt, palm oil, sugar, vegetable oil, milk, buckets, blankets, detergent, antiseptic soap, matches, nylon mats, sanitary pads, raincoats, and multivitamins.

He commended stakeholders in Bauchi State for cooperation and understanding they have been giving to the Presidential Initiative Committee in the distribution of the relief materials and appealed to private and philanthropic organisations, and international communities to partner with the federal government in alleviating the sufferings of the insurgency victims.

Earlier, the Village Head of Alkaleri, Alhaji Mohammed Abdulkadir, had commended the Federal Government for the initiative in aid of insurgency victims who in Alkaleri, he noted, have already been registered in anticipation of such gesture.

Abdulkadir, who assured that the relief materials will reach the targeted beneficiaries, said people in Alkaleri Local Government area are living peacefully with one another, and that even their neighbors frowned at insurgent activities that forced victims from the three states of the sub-region to seek refuge elsewhere.
