Female Sergeant Arrested Over Husband’s Death

A female police sergeant, identified simply as Helen has been arrested by the police authorities over the murder of a policeman, identified as Kelechi.

Daily Independent Metro gathered that Kelechi met his death after he called at the home of Helen at Umuokwe village in the community to see his daughter. The female police officer was said to have raised the alarm that Kelechi was a thief and had come to kidnap her daughter.

A student, who gave her name as Gift, said because of the alarm, some youths living in the neighborhood gathered and attacked Kelechi and killed him in the process despite.

The duo were married  but later separated due to unresolved differences. After the incident, almost all the houses within the vicinity were deserted for fear of arrest by the police. The killing of the policeman we learnt generated apprehension in the neighborhood. A resident in the area who spoke under anonymity said: “ Since last Thursday, most people living around here have ran away from their homes. We are afraid that police will start arresting everybody around here.

“Kelechi has lived in this neighborhood more than three years before he was transferred outside the state. He just came into town and decided to see his daughter who was living with Helen after their separation,’ she said.

Delta Police public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu who confirmed the arrest of the policewoman, said the suspect was being held in custody along with her accomplices that killed the policeman last week in Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area.
