House of Representative member, representing Barkin-Ladi Riyom Federal Constituency from Plateau State, Barrister Istifanus Gyang, has appealed to the Federal Government to take drastic measures toward curbing the persistent killings of innocent people in Riyom and Barkin-Ladi Local Government Areas of the State.

Barrister Gyang made this call at the weekend in Jos, the Plateau State capital where he advocated that the Federal Government include victims of the incessant attacks in the state in the rehabilitation and resettlement programme for victims of terror attacks.

Barrister Gyang, worried by unabated killings of his constituents by suspected terrorists in the state, said he had already raised a motion in the House of Representatives leading to the setting up of  a committee to immediately visit the scene of the attacks in Plateau with a view to proffer solutions.

According to him, over 38 communities in his constituency have been attacked this year, with several communities burnt down.

He said over 22, 000 people were displaced, over 300 people killed, and over 300 escaped death with fatal injuries.

He said: “The unfortunate thing now is that these attacks have defied all efforts at peace building in the constituency.

“We have committed our effort to ensure that there is peace in the communities and that all citizens of this country who are residing in the constituency live in peace and harmony with one another.

“But, unfortunately, the communities are under terror attacks.”

It would be recalled that it was these terror attacks that consumed Senator Gyang Dantong and Former Majority Leader in the Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon. Gyang Fulani, in 2012, during the mass burial of the victims of attacks in Mazah village of Riyom Local Government Area of the State.
