In an emotional revelation, FC Taraba Goalkeeper, Ikechukwu Obilo, has stated that the players are owed a backlog of 11-month salary, which the government – owners of the club – has decided it’ll pay sometimes this week albeit, only part of what’s owed.

The club is currently one step above the bottom of the table with 30 points after 31 league matches.

” They’ve promised us that by the grace of God this week, and the Governor has agreed to pay part of the back log of 11-month salary but we’re hopeful that God will touch his heart to do so.”

The relevant section of the rule book Article B9.45 states “The terms of a contract between a club and a player shall be strictly adhered to and where a club fails to pay remunerations and entitlements due to a player for a period of more than 60 days, such club shall be liable to a deduction of six points and a further deduction of three points every 30 days for which the entitlement remains unpaid.”

Chairman of the LMC, Shehu Dikko, is believed to prefer a more diplomatic approach to the implementation of the rules and Obilo who also that disclosed the league body has been contacted, insists that the team is determined to complete the seven round of matches left this season.

”Before we played our last match, we spoke with the LMC and they’ve given us their word to do something about it. Regardless though, we’ll still play to prove a point,” he said to www.footballlive.ng.
