Unlike what happened on March 28 when voters turned out en masse for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly polls recorded low turn out in some parts of Lagos.

In most polling units monitored by our correspondent, voters were scanty.

There was however a large improvement on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the ad hoc staff arrived their designated polling units on time.

In some areas, the ad hoc staff were set for accreditation by 7.30am.

They, however, urged voters to queue up and wait till it was 8.am, the stipulated time for commencement of the process.

There were also no issues with the Smart Card Reader as was the case during the last elections.

At Ward G3, State Senior Secondary School, Itolo, Surulere, where Governor Babatunde Fashola performed his accreditation, the turn out was very low compared to what obtained a fortnight ago.

Fashola arrived his polling unit by 11.25am in company of his wife, Abimbola, ?and his son, Abdulwaris.

Speaking to newsmen after accreditation, Fashola appealed to voters to come out and perform their civic responsibility.

He said: “Well, I can only speak for what I have seen so far at this polling unit and I think people have taken their time to come out.

“It’s still about one hour and ninety minutes before the end of accreditation.

“I must appeal to people to still take the trouble to come out and do their accreditation.”
