A 32-year-old fashion designer, Maruf Akanji, who allegedly used his Alsatian dog to intimidate voters during the presidential polls, was on Wednesday docked at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Akanji, who resides at No. 108, Folarin Street, Iyana-Ipaja, a suburb of Lagos, is facing charges of breach of peace and negligent manner to cause harm.

He, however, denied the charges.

But the prosecutor, Inspector Cuisine Adams, told the court that the accused committed the offences on March 28 at 4 p.m. along Jimoh Bus Stop, Akowonjo, Egbeda, during the elections.

He said the accused had used his dog to intimidate people and disrupt the voting process.

“Akanji used his Alsatian dog to cause a stir at the polling unit and also refused to call the dog to order while it was intimidating voters.”

The prosecutor noted that the offences contravened Sections 166 (d), (h) and 249 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.O. Tanimola, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

The case has been adjourned to April 23 for mention.
