An associate of the founder of the pan-Yoruba group, Odua People’s

Congress (OPC), Evangelist Kunle Adesokan, has disclosed that Dr

Fredrick Fasehun qualified to take Nigeria to the promised

land.

He disclosed this at the investiture of the National Chairman of the

Unity Party Of Nigeria (UPN) by the West African Students Union (WASU)

in Lagos.

Adesokan said that Fasehun who was decorated by the regional

students’ body as the ‘2015 Most Outstanding African Man of the Year,’

founded the original Labour Party in Nigeria before it was hijacked.

He commended Fasehun, who will turn 80 years in few weeks, for his

credibility as a Nigerian of proven integrity, adding that it was the

awardee that provided escape routes for prominent Yoruba leaders

through OPC and formation of the National Democratic Coalition

(NADECO) as the military junta hunted them around the country.

WASU President, Ambassador Mensah Kweku, a Ghanaian, extolled the

virtues of the awardees as a true Yoruba and a committed nationalist

that had fought for justice in Nigeria and beyond.

He stated that the recognition of Fasehun was a direct response to the long standing craves of the awardee for quality leadership that

would drive his passion for development and growth of Nigeria and

Africa.

Fasehun in his response to the award stated that scores of

awards had been conferred on him at home and abroad, adding he

cherished the one from the students so much because of his passion for good education of the

youths.

He said, “Coming to me, a former primary school teacher and a former

lecturer in medicine, this award can be considered as a crowning glory

to my involvement in the teaching profession”.
