A family of eight was nearly crushed to death when a communication mast collapsed on top of their building in Byazhin across, Kubwa, Abuja.

Independent gathered that the incident occurred around 11 p.m. following a downpour that came with a strong wind.

The occupants of the affected building told our reporter that they had already gone to bed when they were suddenly woken up by the sound of the mast, which shattered the roof of the house.

“The noise of the mast which landed directly on top of our house woke everybody up,” they said.

One of them said he hurriedly arranged for an accommodation in a nearby hotel in the area where he relocated the entire family until the following morning.

The victim, who said they lost some items to the rain, however, said no life was lost in incident, adding that their tenant’s house was also affected but with less damage.

Independent learnt that the service provider that owns the mast had already accepted to pick the bills incurred by the victims.

Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), confirmed the incident, saying no casualty was recorded.
