FOLLOWING the announcement of his intension to step down as FIFA President, Sepp Blatter’s action has drawn diverse opinions with The FA Chairman, Greg Dyke, and former Executive member of FIFA, Nigerian Amos Adamu, thumping up the action, describing same as the right thing for the Swiss.

Blatter announced on Tuesday in Zurich that he would be stepping down as president of FIFA just four days after he was elected for a fifth term.

“We welcome the announcement and believe it is good news for world football and FIFA,” said Dyke.

“Change at the very top of FIFA is the necessary first step in delivering real reform of the organisation.

“We will now commit ourselves to play whatever role we can to support a positive transformation of FIFA for the benefit of all its members.”

On his own, Adamu said following the huge bribery scandal, it was imperative that Blatter resigns.

“It’s the right thing to do as people know what is happening there (at FIFA) is not right.

“Blatter did the right thing to resign his position in the face of corruption charges among key officials.

“FIFA has been covering a lot of things; I think it has reached the point where you cannot continue to cover it anymore.

“The rot in FIFA is like an overheated or overloaded transformer which is bound to explode.

“There is a rule in the system that will shield Sepp Blatter from further prosecution now that he has willingly resigned his position though the FBI may still follow the case,” said Adamu.
